Etsy fees in 2026: what UK sellers actually pay

Etsy does not charge one commission. A single UK sale is hit by four separate fees — listing, transaction, payment processing and the regulatory operating fee — and two conditional ones: Offsite Ads and currency conversion. Together they usually take 11–13% of the order total before VAT, and close to 30% when a sale is attributed to an Offsite Ad.

The rates below are the current UK figures used by the calculator. Etsy publishes changes with roughly a month's notice; the only 2026 change so far is the regulatory operating fee rising from 0.32% to 0.48% on 22 June 2026.

Worked example

A £25 item shipped to a UK buyer

You sell a handmade item for £25 and charge £3.50 postage. The buyer pays £28.50. This is where the money goes.

Say materials, labour and packaging cost you £12 and the label actually costs £3.20. Net profit on the standard sale: £28.50 − £4.19 − £12.00 − £3.20 = £9.11, a 36% margin on the item price. The same order through an Offsite Ad (£9.32 in fees once VAT is added) nets just £3.98. Type these numbers into the calculator above to see how the recommended price shifts.

Transaction fee — 6.5% of £28.50£1.85

Five ways to protect your Etsy margin

Fees are fixed; how you price around them is not. For the full method, see how to price handmade products on Etsy.

01

Price from cost, not from competitors

Start with materials, real labour time and per-order overhead. Then add fees and your target margin. Copying the shop next door copies their mistakes.

02

Decide shipping deliberately

Fees apply to shipping too, so a £3.50 label really costs you about £3.90. Free shipping only works if the price absorbs the label plus the fee on it.

03

Check your Offsite Ads status

Under $10,000 a year you can opt out. If you stay in, your margin must survive a 15% hit on any attributed order — test it with the toggle above.

Not sure whether to keep Offsite Ads switched on? We run the numbers in Etsy Offsite Ads: opt out or stay in?

04

List in your payout currency

A GBP shop paid to a UK bank pays no conversion fee. Listing in USD to look bigger costs 2.5% on every sale.

05

Re-check fees every quarter

Etsy changed the UK regulatory fee mid-2026 and adjusts payment-processing rates by country. Re-run your key listings when a change lands.

FAQ

Etsy fees: frequently asked questions

For a UK seller on Etsy Payments a typical sale costs about 11–13% of the order total before VAT: a 6.5% transaction fee, 4% + £0.20 payment processing, a 0.48% regulatory operating fee and a $0.20 (about 16p) listing fee. If the buyer arrived through Offsite Ads, add 15% (12% for shops above $10,000 a year). Sellers who are not VAT-registered also pay 20% VAT on Etsy's fees.

Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee applies to the item price plus shipping and gift wrapping. Payment processing and the regulatory operating fee are also calculated on the full amount the buyer pays, including any VAT collected. That is why the calculator asks for the shipping you charge separately from what the label costs you.

A UK-specific percentage fee Etsy introduced to recover the cost of the UK digital services tax. It is 0.48% of item price plus shipping since 22 June 2026 (previously 0.32%). It is charged on every UK-seller order and is included by default when you pick the UK in the calculator.

Yes, as long as your shop made less than $10,000 in the previous 365 days. Above that threshold Offsite Ads are mandatory at the reduced 12% rate. The fee is only charged when a buyer clicks an Etsy-placed ad and orders within 30 days, and it is capped at $100 per order. Use the Offsite Ads toggle in the calculator to see the worst case.

If you are not VAT-registered, Etsy adds 20% UK VAT to its fees (not to your sales). If you are registered, add your VAT number in Shop Manager; Etsy then applies the reverse charge and you account for the VAT on your return. The worked example above shows both figures.

Break-even is the price at which net profit is zero after materials, labour, packaging, overhead, the difference between shipping charged and shipping paid, and every Etsy fee. Because most fees are a percentage of the price, the tool solves the equation algebraically rather than guessing. The recommended price is the same equation with your target net margin added, and the comparison table shows how the price moves at other margins.

Yes. Choose Türkiye, the United States or the EU and the payment-processing, regulatory and listing rates switch to that market. US mode includes an estimated import tariff for DDP shipments; EU mode includes the €3 per-item customs charge on low-value parcels. Shipping and cost fields stay in your own currency.

No. The calculator runs entirely in your browser; nothing you type is sent to a server or saved by Specifek. If you want a full review of your listings, pricing and SEO, that is what the Etsy Audit service is for.
